Feng Shui Home Decorating for Modern Living

Author: admin  //  Category: Career

As with Eastern Feng Shui, the front door of the house is also considered the focal point or point of reference in Western Feng Shui. However, there have been many changes in the Western art, stemming from the up and coming technology that has changed the way people live their lives. People in urban and industrialized areas, for example, have exhibited far more flexibility in choosing places to live in, just because their means of living do not greatly depend on the position of the Sun, or on the seasons. It is because of this that those who practice the modern ways look to the front of the house as their point of reference start employing their feng shui home decorating ideas.

A bagua map helps in figuring out what areas if your home are best to use particular feng shui cures, to boost their energy. If architectural floor plans of your home are not available, you can draw one as best as you can, taking good care to mark each room, door, window and other important things to make your feng shui home decorating a lot easier.

Note where the north points are (the main entrance to your home)—these will be your starting points that will be your reference for feng shui cure placement. Be careful and be very detailed. Remember that in every home, there are specific areas that correspond to energies and chi relating to your family life, your financial wealth, your health, romantic life and relationships, and so on. A good diagram of your home will be the foundation  of focus for the location of your feng shui home decorating cures.

Now, as you look at your house diagram, you should note that your front and back doors should not line up directly with each other. Otherwise, this creates a great possibility that the chi will enter one door and immediately exit the other, without properly circulating positive energy and benefits throughout the house. In case the doors do line up, place a plant or a larger statue by one of the doors, to create some sort of obstacle course or organic path that the chi can flow freely in.

Now it’s time to look at the particular areas of your home to find out where you should focus your feng shui home decorating to enhance the relative part of your life.

The north part of your home is the area focused on Career and Prospects. Water elements enhance this area the strongest, and black and blue are the ideal color cures.

The south part of your home corresponds to Recognition and Fame. Red is the ideal color, and fire is the strongest element.

The east part of your home is the area for Family and Health. Green and brown are the ideal colors and wood is the strongest element.

The west part of your home is the area dedicated for the well being of your Children. Metallic colors, white and gold are the best colors to use, and metal is the dominant element.

The northeast part corresponds to Education and Knowledge. Soft colors like beige are best for this area, and earth elements are most powerful.

The northwest part is focused on Mentors and Networking. Metallics, white and gold are the best colors, and metal if the strongest element.

The southeast is for Wealth and Prosperity. Wood elements are strongest, and green is the strongest color.

The southwest is focused on Marriage and Romantic Happiness. Earth elements are strongest, and yellow is the best color.

Knowing the proper location of these areas is the key to making huge changes in your life. It’s through this understanding that you can start to focus on particular areas of you’re life that you’d like to enhance and utilize the appropriate cures in your feng shui home decorating to help you achieve those results!

From Yzerman to Lidstrom

Author: admin  //  Category: Career

When Steve Yzerman became the captain of the Detroit Red Wings in 1986, everyone had thought Jacques Demers had lost his noodle.  He was the youngest captain in the franchise’s history and in the NHL at the time.  Now we all have the pleasure of hindsight, but 22 years ago Demer’s saw something special.  Steve Yzerman is easily considered one of the best captains in NHL history.  Being the longest serving captain of one team his entire career is quite an achievement.  After such a long tenure, how is it that it was such an easy transition to the current captain, Nick Lidstrom?

rn

When Yzerman became captain, he was quiet and shy.  He basically led by example on the ice.  His smooth play.  He had six consecutive 100+ point seasons.  He was rarely penalized.  When Scotty Bowman took over the team in 93-94 season, he took over a team that had been struggling for decades.  He immediately looked to the captain to help turn that around.  Scotty Bowman stressed the importantance of defense.  Steve Yzerman changed his game and became an excellent defensive forward.  Under the guidence of Scotty Bowman, the Red Wings captured their first Stanley cup in over four decades in 1997.  The stress on defence and Yzerman changing his game were key factors.  Steve Yzerman never put up the numbers like he had during the first part of his career, but he was just as important, if not more, being a great defensive forward.

rn

Steve Yzerman never had to say much.  His team looked up to him and trusted him.  They watched his perserverance and leadership on the ice.  That transfered to the locker room.  He didn’t have to stand on a chair and yell out inspirational things, he was inspirational himself.  Overshadowed in his career by other great hockey players like Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier and Mario Lemieux, his teammates knew how great he was.  Eventually it was realized by the entire hockey league.

rn

Nick Lidstrom came to Detroit and has also spent his entire career there.  He was quiet and put up great numbers as a defensman.  Here was another case where for years, his team and fans knew he was amazing and the rest of the league had yet to notice.  Nick Lidstrom is an important part of the team and even while Yzerman was still there, the rest of the team looked to him for guidence as well.

rn

When Steve Yzerman retired, Detroit hockey fans were sad.  What an amazing career, but we all knew it would come to an end.  When Nick Lidstrom was handed the C, Detroit hockey fans cheered.  Nick Lidstrom also was the quiet sort, never seeking out attention for his amazing exploits.  He is always described as being in the right place at the right time, always.  He is not overally physical, but always effective.  Nick Lidstrom doesn’t need to say much in the locker room either.  A veteran who spent his entire career in one city, is looked up to by the youngsters, and respected by his peers.  He leads the Red Wings by his demeanor and his play.

rn

Steve Yzerman and Nick Lidstrom may have played different positions, be from different countries, but they share a common attitude.  An absolute love of the game.  They both have the poise, respect and unassumed leadership that other people just gravitate towards.  They perfected their game for the betterment of their team.  They are future hall of famers who now both have the honor of leading their team to the ultimate prize, the Stanley cup.  The trust that their teammates have in them is unyielding and a true testament to sports players everywhere.  There was no better man to take over for Steve Yzerman.  All Red Wings fans hope that Nick Lidstrom will be here for many more years.

rn

~~On another note, I predict Henrik Zetterberg to be the next captain of the Red Wings, carrying on a tradition of on the ice leadership and amazing play offensively and defensively.  He is like a Swedish version of Steve Yzerman and I predict that if he does take over for Lidstrom someday, it will be another smooth transition.  This article is based mostly on opinion, if you have anything to add or your own opinion, it will be readily accepted and noted.

LIFE IN A SYCAMORE TREE

Author: admin  //  Category: Career

Julio Iglesias wasn’t always able to sing. Originally the entertainer wanted to be a professional soccer player. His career dreams were sidelined when a car accident left him paralyzed from the waste down and with little chance of ever walking again. His stay in the hospital lasted several months, and it was during this time that a nurse gave him a guitar to pass the time. Julio spent hours on end listening to the radio and writing lyrics while trying to master the instrument, and by the time he could walk again the course of his existence had been dramatically altered. His life is an example of how one moment can change everything.

For Zacchaeus, that moment came one afternoon in the city of Jericho. The bible tells us that Zacchaeus was “a chief tax collector” (Luke 19:2), a profession that at the time was open to extreme abuse. Zacchaeus’ dishonest practice had made him a wealthy man, albeit an unpopular one. The course of his life would be drastically changed one day when he met an itinerant Rabbi while sitting in a sycamore tree. Luke tells us that “When Jesus reached the tree, he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today’” (Luke 19:5).

It is a popular story, one that most children are familiar with. Zacchaeus climbs down from the tree declaring that he will right the wrongs he has committed, paying back four times the amount of money he cheated anyone out of. But the story is more than a powerful anecdote, it is our story.

We also often find ourselves sitting on a branch, watching the days go by, afraid to fully embrace the voice that is calling out to us. But the amazing thing about this journey of faith is that there is one who is walking towards us while we are sitting in a tree, and he knows us by name. He calls us to climb down and join him in discovering what it means to be fully alive. For those who choose to leave their place of comfort in the sycamore, he offers a chance to experience life in the Kingdom of God.

It is a defining moment to take the step of faith and begin the descent from the branches that have been our security for so long. It is easy to get used to the view from up there. But we are not meant to be spectators, and the one who calls us by name can be trusted. Luke concludes the story by telling us, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost” (Luke 19:10). The truth is, he has found us and he offers to show us that there is life everlasting beyond the sycamore, we simply have to trust him enough to “come down” and live it.
